Reservation and trip policies

RESERVATIONS:

Reservations for all trips are accepted via email or fax after your desired itinerary and dates are selected and confirmed.

A 25% deposit is due at the time of booking to hold hotel rooms, buy train tickets, etc. Final payments are due 30 days prior to the trip date. All deposits and payments are nonrefundable.

For your convenience, we accept deposits and final balances via checks sent to our U.S. address, via wire transfer or via credit card through paypal.com, the internet's largest and most secure credit card processing service.

We also offer trip insurance thru CSA Insurance, one of the largest travel insurance companies in the U.S.  Please click on the CSA icon on our home page for more details.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

We reserve the right to substitute accommodations, transportation and itinerary when we deem it necessary or advisable. Every effort will be made to travel the itinerary selected, but your safety and welfare will always dictate the path we choose.

ACCOMMODATIONS & SINGLE SUPPLEMENTS:

We can usually arrange for roommates for nonsmokers-please let us know your preferences. Those desiring a room by themselves will be charged the single supplement (this amount varies by trip)..

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS:

Our trips are designed for energetic, healthy individuals who like to get off the beaten path. However, the excursions are only as demanding as you want them to be--it is your choice. As much of the Copper Canyon region is at an altitude of at least 5400 feet, persons with pre-existing health conditions should consult their physician before participating. We also suggest you consult your doctor about any immunizations you may need before you travel.

Below you will find the Centers for Disease Control recommendations on traveling to Mexico.

and a little more detail on the malaria threat in Mexico (not significant in the Copper Canyon)

DIETARY PREFERENCES:

Please let us know if you have special dietary needs-every effort will be made to accommodate them.

OUR MOST IMPORTANT POLICY:

We are here to serve you, and provide you with a memorable, enjoyable and safe vacation. If there is anything we can do to make the preparations for your trip easier, just let us know.  And the same applies during your trip--we are here to help!

Our creed:

"Ecotourism is environmentally responsible travel and visitation to
relatively undisturbed natural areas, in order to enjoy and appreciate
nature (and any accompanying cultural features - both past and present) that
promotes conservation, has low negative visitor impact, and provides for
beneficially active socio-economic involvement of local populations
(Ceballos-Lascurain, Tourism, Ecotourism and Protected Areas, IUCN, 1996)".

(Note: We use the word Raramuri throughout as the most accurate name of the indigenous people of the Copper Canyon (what they call themselves, not the more commonly used "Tarahumara", which is actually a word the Spanish created))

Please note that while many of our trips start with your arrival in Los Mochis, we can modify ANY itinerary to start in El Paso or Chihuahua, if that is your preferred starting point.  Please note that because of the greater distances to many areas in the Copper Canyon from those two cities, itineraries which start from there may require more transportation time, and may be more expensive due to the increased transportation cost. These increased time and money costs may offset any benefits from lower airfares to these cities, but we will do what we can to keep your trip cost down.
